Traveller's joy (Clematis vitalba)

Collins, 76; Readers Digest,

This is a woody climbing perennial with stems up to 30 metres long.  It has white to green flowers from June to September that smell of Vanilla. When its fruits ripen its other name old man's beard becomes apparent from the plumed feathery seed heads. These were once smoked by small boys.
